Jonathan Mitchell is named in the will of his Grandfather, Jonathan Whitley (abt. 1730-bef. 1801), as follows:

I bequeath to my Grandson Jonathan Whitley and Fanlny to be free and I further bequeath to my grandson Jonathan Whitley one negro Fellow named George and a bond due from Joseph French to me.
I give and bequeath to my beloved Grandson Jonathan Davis a track of land that belongs to me lying on the waters of Holsteins river and my Grandson Jonathan Mitchel when he possess the land where I now live he is to pay to his Sister Lily Mitchel thirty pounds Sterling Cash or forty pounds in Trade.
