NOTE: Birth and Death: A Genealogy of the Descendants of William Kelsey, Vol. II, p.107 by Edward Claypool. The author states: The head of this family (Jonas Kelsey), as a young man lived at New Paltz, N.Y. and enlisted for service in the Revolutionary War from that locality, becoming attached to Captain Peleg Ransom's Company under the command of Col. John Cantines. He owned land at New Paltz, as shown by a deed dated May 1, 1787, and recorded at Kingston,N.Y. in Book K.K., p.45, which describes this land as joining that of Jacob Dayton on the north. He lived just one and one-half miles from the home of Sarah (Woolsey)Kelsey's former home, the boundary lines between New Paltz and Marlborough separating the farms.
