John Wright's will--To wife, Lidy; to eldest son, Abraham, 300 acres called Ball Hill; to second son, James, 175 acres patented in name of testator's father, James Wright, and 30 acres adjoining the Bald Hill part of the Bear Wallow; to child wife is big with, remainder of Bear Wallow tract; to daughters, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Janet, Easter and Lydia Wright, tract called Perish Lines; to third son, Joshua, 170 acres; to farther son, John, infant. Executors, wife Lydia and Daniel Smith. Teste: Michael Warren, Jno. Hughes, Egniar Virden. Proved, 18th November, 1762, by Micliael Warren and Egniar Virden. Executors qualified, with Jno. Bowyer.

Will Transcript

In the name of God Amen the twenty seventh day of September in the Year of our Lord 1762, I John Wright of the County of Augusta & Colony of Virny being very sick and weak in body of parfect mind and Memory thanks be given to god for it Calling to mind the Mortality of my body and knowing that it is apointed for all men once to die make and Ordain this my Last will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and Recommend my soul into the hand of God that gave it and for my Body I Recomend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like Manner at the discretion of my Executor Nothing Doubting but at the great Resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such Worldly Goods which it hath pleased Got to bless me with in this life I do give Devise and Depose of the same in the following Maner and form first of all I give and Bequeath to my welbeloved Wife Lidy Wright the Use of my Mill place and the third part of the Rents of the other plantation which is five pounds a year During the time of her Widowhood and after named go to fees.

Item I give and Bequeath to my Eldest son Abraham Wright 300 acres of Land Call'd the Ball Hill togather with the Improvements

Item I Give and bequeath to my second son James Wright One Hundred & Seventy five acres of Land formerly patined in the name of my father James Wright and forty acres of Land Joing this Land of the bald hill part of the Bear Walow,

Item I give and Bequeath to the Child that my wife is now Big with the Remainder part of Bear Walow tract together with One hundred Acres the Bald Hill from the head of the tract Including a smal spring Item I order that three Hundred acres of the uplands of the Tract that I now live on to be sold from ________ across ________ and Land and Money arising from the said Land to be Equally Divided among and between my Daughter Elizabeth Wright & Mary Wright & Sarah Wright & Janet Wright & Esther Wright & Lydia Wright and the Money to be divided among my Six Daughters and one tract of Land Called the Derest Lines to be sold & Devided in Like Manor to the said Garels

Item I give and bequeath to my third son Joshua Wright One hundred and Seventy acres of Land Joyning to that part that is to be sold not Discomoding the Mill,

Item I give and bequeath to my farther son John Wright One hundred & Thirty Acres of Land where I now live togeather with the Mill and the Mill to be Tryed in good order for the uses and benifit of the Children till he shall come to the Age of twenty one years of age of the Hole of my Estate and as for the Remainder of my Estate good & Chattels after paying all my Just Debts and funeral Charges and the remainder of my Estate be Equaly Divided Among my wife and Childern

This last Will and Testament of John Wright decd was proved by the oath of Michl Warran & Egniar Virden two of the Witness's and ordered to be recorded and on the Motion of Daniel Smith & Lydia Wright the Executors therein named who made Oath according to Law Certificate is granted them for Obtaining a probat thereof in due form they having with Security Entered into Bond acc. to Law.

Know all men by these presents that we Lydia Wright, Daniel Smith, John Bowyer and Michel Warren are held and firmly bound unto John Dickenson James Lockridge John Maxwell & John Archer Justices ________ of the peace for Augusta County for and in behalf of the Justices of the said County in the sum of One Thousand pounds to be paid to the said Justices and their Successors to which Payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of us our & every of our Heirs Exors & admtors jointly and Severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals & dated this 18 day of Novr 1762

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bound Lydia Wright & Daniel Smith Executors of the Last Will and Testament of John Wright deceased do make or Cause to be made a true and perfect Inventory of all and Singular the Goods Chattels & Credits of the said Deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of the said Extors or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for them and the same so made do Exhibit or Cause to be Exhibited into the County Court of Augusta at such time as they shall be thereunto required by the said Court and the same Goods Chattels and Credits and all other the Goods Chattels and Credits of the sd Deceased at any time after shall come to the hands possession of Knowledge of the sd Extors or into the Hands & possession of any other person or persons for them do well and truly Administer according to Law and further do make a just and true account of their Actings and Doings therein when thereto required by the said Court and also shall well & truly pay & deliver all legacies contained and specified in the sd Testament as far as the sd gods Chattels & Credits will Extend & the Law shall Charge then this obligation to be Void and of none Efect or Else to remain in full force
