'Died Oct. 5th, 1551. Buried in Kelvedon Hatch Church.'

Note: In this book, dates before 1600 are given as death dates, while dates in the early 1600s are given as burial dates. It is possible that the pre-1600 dates are from probate records rather than parish records and thus are correctly identified as death dates.

'In 1538 Sir John Wright purchased Kelvedon manor, in the parish of Kelvedon Hatch, Essex, and erected a mansion near the west end of the church. He died in this mansion (Kelvedon Hall) Oct. 5, 1551. and was buried, as was also his wife, Olive, and many other Wrights, in the chancel of "Kellydon" (St. Mary's) church, of whom memorial inscriptions are there to be found.'

This source (which is not a particularly reliable one) refers to him as "Sir John Wright", but the "Sir" has been called into question (see "Research" in John Wright, of Kelvedon Hall, which also claims to have found "no evidence that he was ever knighted or held a peerage of any kind.")

'... there was born in Brentwood, Essex, England, John Wright, who was the earliest known progenitor of the family ... He was granted a baronetcy June 20th, 1509, and was thus entitled to a seat in Parliament. He was lord of Kelvedon Hall, which he purchased in 1538. He died in 1551.'

  4. Birth year estimated based on estimated marriage year (assuming he was about 25 at marriage).

Note that the International Genealogical Index (IGI) gives a christening date of 12 Jul 1488, in either Dagenham or Kelvedon Hatch (which are not associated with the Wright family until the 1500s). The christening date is assumed to be fabricated, as are the christening dates of his children given in the Ancestral File. Genealogical and Biographical Notices of Descendants of Sir John Wright of Kelvedon Hall, Essex, England (published 1915) estimated the birth years of his children, and from those, estimated his marriage year as 1509, and then estimated his birth year as 1488, assuming that he was 21 at the time of his marriage. The Ancestral File and IGI include christening and marriage dates that correspond exactly with all these estimates - clearly a fabrication.
