William Tyndale Added by gafoster719 on 14 Sep 2008 Originally submitted by denguf to Dennis Guffey Family Tree on 29 Apr 2008 William Tyndale, John's brother was and English religious Reformer, and translatorof the bible. His incomplete version of the Bible was the first English translation fro teh original Greek and Hebrew texts. The wording of the king James Bible, published in 1611, was drawn largely from Tyndale. Through this Bible, long the standard version used by English speaking Protestants and Anabaptisti, the simple, vigorous prose of Tyndale greatly influenced English literary style. Tyndale was educated for the priesthood at Oxfor and Cambridge. About 1522 he began his translation of the New Testament. The English churchofficials disapprovedand believed that the Bible was only meant for the clery. In 1524 heleft for Germany to study under Martin Luther and continued his translation. In 1525 in spite of the Roman Catholic efforts he published the complete New Testament in English. In 1535 he was arrested by agents of the Holy Roman Emperor. After a long imprisonment he was strangled and burnt at the stake for trying to put God's Word in the common man's hands. While dying in the flames it is recorded that he prayed that God would open the eyes of the King of England. Within a century, with help from the King of England, there was the Authorized Version, finished and in a form that every man could read and understand, the 1611 King James Bible, the version with which God has preserved Hisperfect infallibe Word without errror for every generation as He promised in Psalms 12:6,7
