Tribute by Carrie Todd McLaughlin, 1947: "John Emmet Todd. Born at Canton, Nov. 9, 1853. Graduated from Monmouth College as valedictorian of the class of 1878. He was ordained a Baptist minister in 1880. He also studied law but chose the ministry as his life's work. He married Martha E. Stookey on April 24, 1881. He was endowed with the quick wit of the Irish and also their warm-hearted generosity. He was active in arousing public sentiment against the growing menace of the liquor traffic, and was instrumental in the organization of the Prohibition Party in Warren County in 1882. Fond of jokes and an eloquent speaker, he made many friends and was greatly beloved as a pastor. He was called twice to the Berwick pastorate and twice to serve the church at Galva where he died of diabetes in the prime of life, November 3, 1901."

Additional notes by Anna Marie Dahlquist, 2003:

John Emmet Todd was much interested in family history, wrote the Rodenbaugh Family History in 1896, and started writing the Todd Family History which his sister Carrie updated in 1947. As his son died in infancy and his daughter, though married, had no children, John Emmet Todd left no direct descendants. But the many generations of his nieces and nephews are forever grateful for his careful recording of the Todd and Rodenbaugh family members up to his time. He is buried on Lot 7, Block 7, Roseville IL Cemetery
