John Thompson was baptised on 13th February 1848 at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, son of a straw plaiter named Hannah Thompson, formerly Swallow, and her husband William Thompson, an agricultural labourer and straw factor. Sadly John died as a small baby, being buried at Wheathampstead on 19th March 1848.
