On 5 September 1835 William Thompson recorded a deed in Jefferson County, Ohio, book Q, pages 288 and 289, setting up a land trust with James Collier for Mary Thompson, wife of William, and their children. After the death of William Thompson in 1846, James Collier conveyed the property to Mary Thompson and children. (Copy of conveyance in Jefferson County History Center, Steubenville, Ohio.) In that conveyance James Collier identifies the children as “...and Whereas the said William Thompson has since departed this life, leaving the said Mary as his widow and the said David E. (In said deed of trust called David A.) Thompson, John W. Thompson and Elizabeth Thompson, his children born of the said Mary at the time of the execution of said deed, and Harrison Thompson, Sarah Ann Thompson, Andrew J. Thompson, Wesley Thompson and James Wilson Thompson, his children of his said wife Mary Thompson since and after the execution of said deed of Trust, who are the children and heirs at law of said William Thompson, Deceased, and the survivors of Mary Jane Thompson, a daughter of the said William born of his said wife Mary after the execution of said deed, who died an infant of tender years and without issue....” References
