My dear Brother and friend will try and answer your kind leter I was glad to hear from you wee are all well wee have very dry weather here wee will get through gathering corn tomarow- I have sold out here and have Bought land in kansas it is in Dickinson Co. herington is my town it is A nice litle place it has the round house water works Electric plant Opera house two Banks Elivator milles 3 hotells and my farms are one mile from the Depo I Bought two farms one has 160 acres and the other 240 acres they Both have prity good houses on them and the land is nice we are going there to raise Stalk the grass grows good there and plenty of water it is Just 140 miles West of kansas City there is six out lets By rail road from that town wee think wee will move about the midle of February wee are glad the Children are going to Send there pictures the Boys are going to get theres taken Soon and they will Send theres I often think of the pleasant visit I had there your Adress was all rite and now you keep on writing and I will write I would have wrote Sooner But was in kansas two trips yours Fraternly John L. Smith this leaves us well

Brother after So long wee got those picturs after the proof was taken the srtist got Sick and wee just got them well wee are all tore up and mostly packed ready to moove wee will Start wendesday Evening wee Expect to get there next morning will have two cars will Send pictures in the morning when wee get mooved will write and tell you how we like our home and will want to hear from you my post office is Herrington Dickson Co Kansas John L.     "I Ransom Smith, of the County of Clinton and State of Missouri, of the age of sixty-eight being of sound mind and memory do make, publish and declare this is my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say: I give, devise and bequeath all my property personal and real situated in the Town of Turney and the State of Missouri to my wife Nancy Smith and my two children Eddy Smith and Harriet Electa Smith to be used for the special purpose of educating my two children above named and do hereby appoint my wife Nancy Smith, executrix of said property. Second, I give and bequeath Twenty-five Dollars yet due on my subscriptions to the M.E. Society of Turney, Missouri. Third, I give, devise and bequeath one third of all the remainder of my property to my said wife to be received and accepted by her in lieu of her dower and the remaining two thirds to be divided as follows to wit: One Dollar to my son John L. Smith, one Dollar to my son Ransom J. Smith and one Dollar to my son Jesse Smith. All the remaining property to be equally divided between my three daughters now living, Martha A., Lavisa and Mary and the children of my daughter Rosana, deceased. I hereby appoint my wife Nancy Smith sole executrix of this, my last will and testament."
