John W. Seaver, a clerk residing in Boston, Massachusetts, enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on 26 July 1863 at the age of 15. He enlisted in Company C, 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiment, Massachusetts, on 4 August 1863. He mustered out of the same company on 30 June 1865 [American Civil War Soldiers Database, on www.ancestry.com].
