An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, he turned down a number of offers to play professional baseball. Played semi - professional baseball in Buffalo. Began career with the Crosby Co. stamping plant, located on Pratt Ave., in 1900 working for $1.50/ week as a delivery boy. In 1908 he became company timekeeper. Production manager in 1911, treasurer in 1932, vice president and general manager in 1939, and president in 1944.
