John Rudwick was baptised on 25th January 1869 at Trotton in Sussex, son of a cowman named John Rudwick and his wife Elizabeth. The 1871, 1881 and 1891 censuses each find young John living with his parents at Dumpford in the parish of Trotton. By 1891 he was working as a groom.
In 1894, aged 25, John was married to Sarah Ann Peck, who was originally from Wix in Essex. They married at Fulham in the western suburbs of London. John returned to Trotton with Sarah after their marriage. They had a son, Alfred George, baptised there in 1895, but sadly he died as a small baby; he was baptised on 11th December but his death was registered before the end of that month.
John and Sarah then moved to Chichester, where they appear in the 1901 census living at 2 Caledonian Road with Sarah's nephew Alfred Mason. By this time John was working as a domestic coachman.
In 1902 John and Sarah had another son, Frederick John. The 1911 census finds John, Sarah and Frederick living at 34 Caledonian Road.
John died in 1921, aged 52. He and Sarah had been married for 27 years. Sarah outlived him by nearly 39 years, and remarried three years after his death.

ch. 25 Jan 1869, Trotton, Sussex: John son of John & Elizabeth Rudwick
Needs to be confirmed at West Sussex Record Office. This baptism has been linked to the John Rudwick who married Sarah Ann Peck on the basis that in the censuses after they married he consistently gave an age and birthplace suggesting he was born around 1869 in Trotton, and their marriage certificate gives his father's name as John Rudwick.
