John Robinson was elected one of the Selectmen of Exeter for the years 1706, 1720, 1725, and 1738. In 1725 the town granted him 130 acrea of land.

In thesettlement of his fathers estate, John was deeded, on March 6, 1710-11, 4 acrea of swamp land beyond "pickpocket," a part of 20 acrea his father, Jonathan had bought of Jonathan Thing. (Province Probate Records, Concord, NH, vol. 19,page 353; Province Deeds, Concord, NH, Vol. 9, page 65.

It is presumed that John and Mehetable Robinson were buried in the cemetary of the old church yard at Exeter, which became disused in 1696, when the new meeting house was erected. It was the second oldest place of burial in Exeter, and for nearly one hundred years most of the leading men were interred there. Early in 1800, on the sole authority of a few of the leading men of the town, all of the tombs and tombstones were removed from the yard and the ground leveled. Bell says in his History of Exeter, "the loss which it caused to the antiquary and investigator of family history is well nigh irreparable."

In 1680, in running the boundary line between Massachusetts and New Hampshire, the original county of Norfolk ceased to exist, and the old Norfolk records are kept at Salem, Massachusetts.
