Mike, John Roane migrated from Pennsylvania to Virginia -- he had a brother, Andrew who died in PA, and John raised Andrew's children as well as his own. John was the uncle of the famous Archibald Roane, Governor of TN, among others. I believe he did stay in VA, however, Archibald became a lawyer in NC and then went to practice in TN. :)

I appreciate and thank you for your reply. I have been told by another researcher that Rev. John Roane was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1745 in Lancaster, PA. I was told that he had two brothers, William and James, who already were living in Essex County, VA and that he joined them there. Can you confirm, in addition to brother Andrew Roane, that this Rev. John Roane also had brothers William Roane and James Roane? Is this line connected to the John Roane line in King William Co., VA? Do you know when Rev. John Roane moved to Virginia? Do you have the names of his children and Andrew Roane's children? Do you have details on which members of the family moved to North Carolina and where they settled? Thank you so much for any information you are willing to share. This information would help lots of people who are trying to straighten out these lines.

The Rev John Roan kept an Account Book 1745 - 1775. The account book was published in the NC Genealogical Soc Journal. It was published by Ransom McBride, the editor at that time. It was published as a series for the NC Journal. I have the series from Feb 1981 - Vol VII, #1, page 13- (Bible Records) "I was born Ap30 1717 My wife was Born Mrch 25 1724 Iwas licensd to preach Jun 27 1744 ordained Aug 16 1745 Married to Anne(to Anne crossed out) Aug 21 1750 My daughter Isabel was born July 8 1751 Margt Lecky was born Aug 14 1746 NS my daughter Jean born May 3 __53 My daughter Anne born May 13 1755 My son Alexr Roan born Ap 7 1757 ____Died Sep 10 1757 Elizabeth born Aug 14 1758 Isabel Roan died Nov 27 1758 aged 7 years 4 months Son Flavel born July 31 1760 Anne Roan died Sept 1 1763 8 years 9 months Mary Roan born March 26 1764" In NOv 1981 NC Jouranl on p.201 John mentions Dr John Roan, Sister Margaret & Andrew Roan. He speaks of Andw Roan's sickness in March 1760. Andrew Roan had a daughter Margaret. I'm beginning to think this PA Roan line maybe the Roan line I'm looking for. If you happen on to Tunstall Roan please let me know. Your local library should take the NC Genealogical Soc Joural - just check. Ruth Clift Bowen Rubo1836@@aol.com
