"John Richmond was almost surely the person of that name who was one of the first purchasers of Taunton, Mass., in 1637, but he is not listed among the men able to bear arms in 1643, so apparently was not in Plymouth Colony at that time (Savage). Neither John Richmond is in the 28 Dec. 1659 list of the names of those inhabitants within the township of Taunton (Richard L. Bowen, Early Rehoboth l:18f.).
According to G. Andrews Moriarty (TAG 20:57) he was a juror in Newport in 1642 and a householder in 1643. John Sr. was a frequent jury member from Oct. 1655 to 1660 (Rhode Island Court Records 1:11-71). He was involved in suits in 1656 and 1657 (John R. Bartlett, Colonial Records of Rhode Island 1:333, 359).
John Richmond Sr. of Taunton in his will of 14 Dec. 1663 'aged about 70 years' names eldest son John, son Edward, son in law William Paule and Mary his wife, son in law Edward Rew and Sarah his wife. Also named are grandsons Thomas (son of John) and Edward (son of Edward). The will was probated in Plymouth 29 Oct. 1669 (Mayflower Descendant 18:249f.). He died before 11 April 1664 when his sons in law receipted for their share of the estate (MD 19:60)."
