"His father emigrated from Rockbridge County, Virginia, to Richmond,Indiana in 1821 or 2. His ancestors were "Covenantor Folk" fromScotland. His mother's ancestors were also Scoth from the Scott familyfrom the "Banks of the Tweed" and of the House of the Dukes ofBuccelugh. The name Reid shows its Scotch origin, the word signifying inScotch, "red". Directly under the shadow of the beautiful east window ofMelrose Abbey at Melrose, Scotland, lies the entire burial place of theReids,..." (Remainder of the document is missing.)
