Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:
- Page 2.--14th November, 1752. William McRory (McKory?) and Margaret to Adam Reed, 175 acres on the Mary Creek, part of 350 patented to Rev. Alexander McDowel, 10th July, 1745; Evans' run. Teste: David and Samuel Moore, Nathaniel Evans.
- 2 May 1763. James Tooley of St. Anne's Parish, Albemarle, to Adam Reid A C. 15 pds. for 25 acres on Three forks of Pedlar and "pattented" to James Tooley 25 Sept. 1762. [Source: Deeds-Amherst and Albarmarle County, Virginia].
- Page 130.--15th February, 1773. John Greenlee, of Botetourt, to Adam Reid, lease. Teste: William McKemy, David Tedford. Delivered: Ab. Wilson, 4th June, 1779.
- Page 131.--Release of above (?). John Greenlee and Hannah and Mary Greenlee, widow and relict of James Greenlee, deceased, to John Reid (recorded as to Adam Reid).
- Reid, Adam from John Greenlee, both of Rockbridge Co., 7 Sep 1779. For £120, "...west side of the North branch of the James River ---- to a Tract Surveyd for said Borden and Running thence along the Several Courses of the River six hundred and thirty poles to a Leaning Beach thence due North Eighty poles along a Steep Stony Wall Side to a Double white oak Saplin thence north Forty Degrees that one Hundred & Thirty Six poles thence--th one Hundred & Twenty poles over the ---- to a line of D Tract thence South fifty five East ---- Hundred and Twenty poles with sd Line to a white oak on the west side of a sink hole. - Page 128.--10th February, 1763. Adam ( ) Reed and Barbara ( ) to John Parks, £100, 175 acres on the Mary Creek, part of 350 acres granted to Rev. Alex. McDowell by patent, 10th July, 1745, crossing Evans's Run.
- 2 August 1779 - Adam Reid, Rockbridge to Richard Ballinger AC for £250, 25 acres three forks of Pedlar. Also order for Rockbridge JPs to quiz Barbary, wife of Reid. [Source: Deeds-Amherst and Albarmarle County, Virginia].
Will of Adam Reed
- Will of Adam Reid - proved 3 Feb 1789. To wife Barbara- one good cow if it "...dies then she is to have one given to her by my two sons William and Daniel Reid and so one Cow continues to her during life, likewise, I give and bequeath to Barbara.." support and maintenance by William and Daniel, also all the household furniture at her disposal at her death. Also 3 sheep and 10s. apiece yearly to her from William and Daniel.
- William and Daniel- 1 equal share of lands & tenements, "to be divided by a line running across from north to south so that my son William Reid is to have the East end lying on the River & my son Daniel Reid to have the west end thereof whereon he now lives."
- Also an equal share of horses and cows.
- Daughter Ketron Wilson- £10 cash 10 years after his death.
- Grandson Adam Reid- £20 cash at the end of 1 year after his death. Remainder to be divided between William and Daniel. William and Daniel executors.

- Vol. 1 - MARCH 16, 1773. - (5) Hemp certifcates: Jeremiah Tedford, Adam Reed.
- Jul 7, 1778: James Hays and Adam Reid came into the Court and acknowledged themselves severally indebted to the Commonwealth to the sum of..." £50 "each, for the good behaviour of John Conliff, for one year and a Day..." [Source: Rockbridge Co., Court Orders].
- Nov 4, 1778: Adam Reid Asse of David McNeely Pltf against Stephen Woods & John McConnel Defnd In Debt. The Defts not appearing though again Solemnly called, on the motion of the Plff by his attorney, it is considered by the Court that the order of the Cost be Conformed, and that the said Plff. recover against the said Defts his debt in the declaration mentioned, also his Costs by him about his suit in his behalf expended, and that the Damage be ascertained upon an inquiry thereof, by a Jury a the next Court. And the Sheriff having Returned on the alias Capeas that the Deft is not found within his Bailiwick on the motion of the plff. by his attorney, a Phinus Capeas is awarded him against the said Deft... - 1778 titheables of Rockbridge Co. list 1 tithable for Adam Reid, alongside William and Daniel. In 1782, he owned 5 horses and 16 cows. Yantis & Love (1987): In the 1787 titheables, he had two horses and two cows.

Notes
John "Adam" Reid, immigrant from Ulster, Ireland, probably came in the period 1737-1741, years of especially heavy immigration into the Americancolonies from hunger due to famine and depression in Ulster. Like manyUlster Scot settlers he travelled the Shenandoah Valley down intoVirginia (from eastern Pennsylvania) and settled about 1745 in thatportion of Augusta County, Virginia, later subdivided as RockbridgeCounty. He and his wife Barbara were members of the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church (oldest in the county and still in existence in 1880).
