1881 - John was living with his grandparents, John and Susan Thompson, in Little London, Northwold. Scholar, aged 8.

1888 - John's death was the result of the accidental discharge of a loaded gun, John had been working as a houseboy but was unemployed at the time of his death. The accident occurred on the farm where his father was bailiff and he was found by his half-sister, Sabina. No memorial inscription has been found in the churchyard at Littlebury.
