    John, son of Joseph and Sarah (Weir) Patton, was born in Washington township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, in 1780, and died there after a long life spent as an agriculturist. He was a Democrat in politics, and a strict member of the Presbyterian faith. He married in January, 1801, Nancy Woodrow. Children: Martha, Joseph, Stephen, David, Henry, Thomas, John, Hiram and Ellen. The boys of this family were above average height, all being six feet, and some slightly over that height; four of them, Stephen, David, Henry and Hiram, were carpenters, but later in life returned to the farm.
