Can anyone help me find the parents of John McCollum of Bath Co., VA? Or the maiden name of his wife?

I have concluded that John McCollum of Rockbridge Co., VA, son of Patrick, is not John McCollum of Bath. Tax records for Rockbridge and Bath from 1788-1798 show that persons by the same name were tithed in both places.

Here is what I have learned about his time in Virginia. [Not all my sources are primary. The source identified below as ksh is Karen Sue Haley, a persistent genealogist who was kind enough to share the results of her research.]

1768: Son Jacob McCollum born.

1775: Dau Margaret b. 11 Apr 1775; will marry John Waddell in 1799 in Bath Co.

1777-79: Private John McCollum appears from Mar 1777 through Dec 1779 on the Company Pay Rolls and Muster Rolls in the 12th & 8th Virginia Regiment of Foot in Capt. Waggener's Company, and later in Maj. Clark's Company; the Regt. was under the command of Col. James Wood throughout the Revolution. John was wounded 04 Oct 1777 at the Battle of Germantown during the Defense of Philadelphia, and was often recorded as a waggoner. A possible relative, Private William McCollum, was in records for the same Company from Mar 1777 through Nov 1779, and was also often recorded as a waggoner. [NARA Military Records. Comment: When the records for John and Wm end, the army was wintering near Morristown, NJ. There was no record saying that they deserted that winter, although many did because of food shortages and other deprivations. No record has been found saying that they were with the 8th Regt when it was captured in Charleston, SC, the following May.]

Sometime before 1782 John, Daniel and William McCollum moved into Augusta County, and settled in a portion that would later become Pocohantas County. A vanity press article on the McCollam family stated that the first McCollam settler in the county "... was of Scotch-Irish descent, and the son of a physician a graduate of the University of Edinburg, and lived in New Jersey..... came from New Jersey in 1770, or thereabouts, and settled on Brown's Mountain near Driscol, which is yet known as the 'McCollam Place,' now in the possession of Amos Barlow, Esq. His children were Jacob, Daniel, William, Rebecca, Mary, and Sarah. [W.T. Price, "Historical Sketches of Pocahontas County, West Virginia", Price Brothers, Marlinton, WV, 1901, p. 229]. Driscol, 6.5 miles SE of Marlinton, is presently known as Minnehaha Springs, and Brown's Mountain is about 4 miles north of that village.

1782: John McCollom was on Augusta Co. Personal Propery Tax List, 10 Apr 1782, with 1 tithe, 3 horses & 16 cattle in the District of Capt. Finley of Baskin's Company. [Microfilm, Library of Virginia (LVA)].

[Enumeration area included all or parts of Alleghany, Bath, Roanoke & Craig counties; copied and indexed by C.T. Burton, acquired by NSDAR Library Dec 1972]

1787: John McCollom was on the Augusta County Land Tax Return of Charles Cameron for 1787; 150a; tax rate per acre = 1/9; total value of land = 12 lbs, 14 shillings, 2 pence; tax at 1 1/2 percent = 3 shillings, 11 1/4 pence.
