    p.81 - Entitled Deceased Veterans of All Wars in Rural Cemeteries - Brotherton Pike - John H. Martens 2-28-1830 - 9-7-1924 - Civil War. He never put the correct age on anything so am not surprised this date doesn't match the birth record.

    Item 3 - Births p.346 - Johann Hinrich Martens son of Joachim & Adeheid born Apr 26, 1830 & baptised May 2, 1830. In America, his name tended to be spelled Martin more often than not.

    John H.Martins, died Sep 7, 1924 age 94yr 6mo 9days. Born Feb 28, 1830 in Germany. Not Employed. Names of his parents not known to informant, D.C.Martin of Somerset, PA Cause of death was Myocarditis. Burial was to be at Brotherton on Sep 10.

    Carolyn Kiser told me about the impressive oblisk 6-7ft tall in the 4th row of this cemetery -on the left- inscribed with John Henry Martens name, dates & war record on one side & wife's name on other side(not her maiden name).

    Johan H. Martens arrived in New York City on Oct 20, 1851 aboard the s/s Agnes which sailed from Bremen. He is 21, a farmer from Hannover. No one with him. Roll 106 of M237-New York Passenger Lists 1851-1891
