  5. ↑ There is no documentation to show that John Lanier was born in Lewisham. His birth date is unknown. Louise Ingersoll, in her book, Lanier, presented a possible year for his birth, based on the birth dates of his siblings; however, it was only conjecture. The order of children named in his father's will, as well as John's time of death, would imply that he was born later than 1631 - although, again, the year of birth is unknown.
