[edit] Information on John KelsayFrom Genforum.com post: 4. JOHN A.2 KELSAY (JOHN1) was born January 25, 1744/45 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and died October 29, 1830 in Versailles, Missouri. He married (1) SARAH HARRIS March 04, 1773 in Botetourt County, Virginia, daughter of JAMES HARRIS. She was born Abt. 1750, and died January 31, 1774. He married (2) MARY ANDERSON March 23, 1780 in Rockbridge County, Virginia, daughter of ELIZABETH GOWDY. She was born Abt. 1760, and died July 27, 1794. Notes for JOHN A. KELSAY: John Kelsay, born January 25, 1745 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He may be the John Kelsay lifted on the tax list of 1771 in Botetourt County, Virginia (or this may be his father). He married in this county on March 4, 1773 to Sarah Harris, probably the daughter of James Harris. She died there on January 31 1774, John, who lived here on his 190 acres on a dry run in the Forks of the James River volunteered on September 10, 1774 in Botetourt County for service in the Revolutionary War as a member of Captain John Murray's Company. He took part in the Battle of Point Pleasant, a fierce conflict against the British backed Indians where many of the Americans, including Captain Murray, were killed. In 1778 the portion of Botetourt County in which he resided became Rockbridge County, and he was married there March 23, 1780 to Mary Anderson, daughter of Mr. Anderson and Elizabeth Gowdy. On the 15th of March, 1786 John sold his 190 acres and next appears on May 5, 1789 purchasing 640 acres of land lying on the waters of plumb and Churn Camp Creek in Greene County, Tennessee. Mary his wife died here July 27, 1794. In 1813 he moved to Campbell County, Tennessee and again in 1816 to Wayne County Kentucky. Thirteen years later John accompanied his son Alexander to Cooper County, Missouri and settled on the upper reaches of Burrus Creek. He died here on October 29, 1830, and is buried in the Kelsay Family Cemetery near Versailles, Missouri. A Daughters of the American Revolution marker has been place next to his tombstone. Children of JOHN KELSAY and MARY ANDERSON are: i. SARAH NELSON3 KELSAY, b. February 16, 1782, Rockbridge, Virginia; m. JOHN HUFF, January 19, 1809, Wayne County, Kentucky; b. Abt. 1775. Notes for SARAH NELSON KELSAY: Sarah Nelson Kelsay, born February 16, 1782 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. She married in Wayne County, Kentucky on January 19, 1809 to John Huff. In 1829 they accompanied her father to Missouri where they raised their family and lived the remainder of their days.
iii. ELIZABETH ANDERSON KELSAY, b. May 21, 1786, Greene County, Tennesse; m. ZACHARIAH LOVEALL, April 24, 1802, Green County, Tennessee; b. Abt. 1781. Notes for ELIZABETH ANDERSON KELSAY: [family99.FTW] Elizabeth Anderson Kelsay, born May 21, 1786 in Greene Co, Tennessee. She married Zachariah Loveall there on April 24, 1802. They moved by 1818 to Wayne Co., Kentucky; in 1820 they were in neighboring Pulaski County; and by 1829 to Lawrence Co., Indiana where they resided for the rest of their days.
