    John (Jowett), bapt. (Bradford) 24 Nov. 1639. He is probably to be identified with John Jewett of Rowley, Mass., who m. (1) 2 Apr. 1661 Elizabeth Cummings (who d. at Ipswich, Mass., 9 July 1679, daughter of Isaac Cummings of Topsfield); m. (2) Elizabeth (How) Chadwell, widow of Benjamin Chadwell of Lynn and daughter of Joseph How. (Thirteen children, treated in detail in Blodgette and Jewett, and in the Jewett Genealogy.)

    John1 Jewett, married, "the same moneth and day" of the marriage of Abraham (Jewett), viz.: 2 : 2 mo. 1661, Elizabeth, daughter of Isaac Cummings of Topsfield. By deed, dated 28 Feb., 1661, Isaac Cummings of Topsfield, conveys a farm in Topsfield to John Jewett, "for and in consideration of marriage with my daughter Elizabeth" (Essex Deeds, 2 Ips.:105). She died in Ipswich, 9 July, 1679. He married (2) Elizabeth, widow of Benjamin Chadwell of Lynn and only child of Joseph How of Lynn (Essex Deeds, 29:132). He was about 58 years old, 17 June, 1695 (Essex Deeds, 13:156); freeman 21 Feb., 1675-6, and then of Ipswich. His will, dated 21 Oct.,1708, mentions wife, Elizabeth; gives the rest of his estate to be divided equally among all his children (unnamed), except daughter Mary to have five pounds more; son Isaac, sole executor (Essex Probate, 310:51).

    John Jewett. He was about 58 years of age June 17, 1695. He first appears in the Rowley records Feb. 2, 1661, when he marries Elizabeth Cummings, daughter of Isaac Cummings of Topsfield, Mass. By deed dated Feb. 28, 1661, Isaac Cummings of Topsfield conveys a farm in Topsfield to John Jewett, "For and in consideration of marriage with my daughter Elizabeth." She died in Ipswich, Mass., July 9, 1679. He married second, probably in Lynn, Mass., Elizabeth Chadwell of Lynn, widow of Benjamin Chadwell of Lynn, and only child of Joseph Howe of Lynn. Mr. Jewett was made freeman Feb. 21, 1675-6, and lived in Ipswich, Mass., where he died. His will, dated Oct 21, 1708, proved Nov. 29,1708, mentions, wife Elizabeth; and gives the rest of his estate to be divided equally among all his children (unnamed) except daughter Mary, to have five pounds more, and son Isaac to be sole executor. … His widow married Oct. 23, 1716, Deacon Ezekiel Jewett (6).
