Frank was reported to have fled Lawrence County, Ohio, after accidentally killing a black youth. Apparently Frank was swimming in the Ohio River when black youths arrived and a fight ensued. Frank threw a rock which struck one of the youths in the head and killed him. Frank is reported to have fled by swimming the river, and later took up residence in the stockade of Samuel Queen in West Virginia. Frank's wife Anna was a daughter of Sam Queen.
