Information on John Howell

Lots 154 & 155 - John Howell, Sr. from Com. of Jeff., Dec. 26, 1805. John was b. ca. 1753, probably in Orange Co., NC and purchased land on Stewart's Creek in 1796. He signed the petition for the formation of Rutherford County in 1803. He owned and operated Howell's Mill, was a Rutherford Co. ranger, Rutherford Co. cotton inspector, a Justice of the Peace, and referred to as Esquire and Gentleman. He m. in NC, Sarah Gwinn or Guinn and wrote his will Dec. 16, 1807.
