BIOGRAPHY: John A. Hovers was an accountant for the mob. When the Feds began closing in on the gangsters John and Ora Hovers left town. They went away for 3 weeks, leaving their 10-year-old son, Robert, in Chicago with friends - the Grenwalds (sp?). When the Hovers returned to Chicago, John dropped Ora off at the house and then he drove to the airport to attend to some business. Robert never saw him again.

He was killed when his airplane crashed. There was an investigation, but apparently nothing was ever proved. The family believes he was killed because he knew too much.
Years later when Robert was in the Navy, he went into a bar in Long Beach, California to have a drink. He began talking with the bartender and found out that he used to work in Chicago. The man had worked as a bartender on a yacht that the mob kept and used for parties. As they talked, Robert discovered that the bartender was acquainted with his mother, Ora (Hovers) Roos. He remembered Ora attending parties on the yacht.
Robert doesn't remember Harry Shell and doesn't know anything about him. He grew up thinking John A. Hovers was his father. (notes from interview with Robert C. Roos, June 17, 2001)
