Advisory on Parentage of John Hedrick

There is considerable debate as to the parentage and birthdate of John Hedrick. Some believe that his parents were Johan Casper Hedrick and Magdalena Braumueller, but others have him as a son of Adam Hedrick. The court case "Hetrick vs. Hetrick" in 1768 clearly identifies John as a brother of Charles "Casper" Hedrick.

Love, David Nelson, Henry Dooley, William Craig, Bernard Man, Joseph Wait, Saml. Muncy, Joseph Muncy, Casper Faught, Owen Reed, Joseph Wait, Jacob Harmon, Jno. Stevenson, Jacob Nicholas, Peter Herman, James Beard, Cathrine Pence, Michael Cam, William Williams. 5th May, 1755--2d sale, to viz: Jacob Nicholas, Henry Dooley, David Nelson, Peter Miller, Conrad Kimsley, Catrine Shawp (3 books), Michael Cam, Francis Kirtley, Jno. • Vol. 1 - Hetrick vs. Hetrick.--Chancery. Filed 28th August, 1768. In 1752-53, John Hetrick, defendant, brother of Caspar Hetrick, orator, went from Pennsylvania to the back part of this Colony and purchased land from John Bombgardner and then returned to Pennsylvania, where orator then lived. Land was cheap and the range for cattle good and fresh. Orator and defendant came to Virginia and settled on the land bought by John. William Frazer had entered a piece of land near which he gave to orator, but John sold it to Peter Tresser. This caused trouble between the brothers and orator built his own house on first piece of land. Orator heard defendant would not give him the land and removed his family to the house of Adam1 Hetrick and sent his neighbors, Valentine Pence and Frederick Harmentrout, to defendant, to know his intentions. Orator moved back on the land and had been living there 14 years in 1768. Bill to compel John to convey to him.

Elizabeth, the wife of Jacob Barger was the daughter of John Hedrick, who's wife's name was Susan Maria Horn, daughter of Henry Horn, who resided in Langheim, Germany. She came to America, a single girl, with her sister. John Hedrick was the son of Charles Hedrick, who came from Langaselva near the town Hanau, Hesse Cassel, Germany. John Hedrick and Jacob Barger had settled in Rockingham County, Virginia. John Hedrick died below Port Republic on the Shenandoah river.
