From Hotten:s Original Persons: "Of all such persons as embarked themselves in the good ship called the Hercules, of Sandwicxh, of the burthen of 200 tons, John Witherley, master, and therein transported from Sandwich to the plantation called New England in America; with the cerificates from the ministers where they last dwelt of their conversation, and conformity to the orders and discipline of the church, and that they had taken the oath of allegiance and supremacy. (The certificates, all dated February and March, 1634, are here omitted.)

On 14 March 1634/5, "Thos Hayward of Aylesford in Kent Taylor & Susanna his Wife," with children Thomas, John, Elizabeth, Susan, and Martha were enrolled at Sandwich as passengers for New England on the Hercules.

John (s. of Thomas i) commonly called JOHN OF THE PLAIN, to distinguish him from John Haward (both being pronounced alike, Howard): he m. Sarah, D. of Experience Mitchell; and had Sarah 1663, John 1667, Joseph 1669, Mary 1672, Thomas 1674, Benjamin 1677, Susanna 1680, Elizabeth 1683, Benoni 1686, Mercy 1687.—His estate settled 1710.—Sarah m. Nathaniel Brett 1683.—Mary m. William Ames 1698.—Susanna m. Thomas Hayward 1702.—Elizabeth m. Edmund Rawson1717.—Benoni m. Hannah Gould 1717, and Hannah Page 1743; qu. if she did not m. Ephraim Cleaveland 1747.—He lived on the Plain between the late old Mr. Jonathan Copeland's and the old Powder House, where his son-in-law Nath'l Brett lived after him and where young Jonathan Copeland lives now.
