John was at Dorchester MA by 16 January 1632, when he had 16 acres of land granted to him "next the great lots towards Neponset". On 14 May 1634 was was made freeman. On 1 December 1634 he was granted 8 acres on Roxbury bounds. On 17 April 1635 he was granted 1 acres of swamp "betwixt the wolf trap and dead swamp". He sold the land "next to the Roxbury bounds" before 18 January 1635. On 18 March 1637 he was granted 4 acres 12 rods of land on the neck, and 3 acres 1 good 12 rods in the Cow Pasture.

He was hailed before the General Court for keeping an unlicensed servant and acquitted 6 June 1639. He removed to Braintree soon after, and in 1640 lived in that part of Braintree that is now Quincy, MA. The children were all born at Braintree.

The General Court upon his petition assisted him in the care of distracted child 1647-1655.

The will of John Hayden of Braintree is dated 31 October 1678, proved 26 July 1684. Inventory of his estate was taken February 1681/1682 by Richard Brackett & Christopher Webb and sworn to by the widow. Inventory included a house, half a barn & 2 acres adjoining, 5 acres on the side of the brook next Dea. Basses, 4a. salt meadow in Milton. The estate was valued at £125/13/.

The will provides: To wife Susanna "who hath been my faithful companion many years" my whole estate except what I have disposed to son Ebenezer, 2 acres upland & 1a. meadow for maintenance of son Joseph, and if he outlives his mother to be in the hands of executors for his support. To son John after my wife's and son Joseph's decease enough to make him equal to his other brethren, and the remainder to be divided between all my children. Children of son Samuel to have a childs portion among them, and the children of my daughter Hannah the same. Confirms to son Nehemiah one end of the house and the rest as mentioned in an instrument to that end; if he pay Ð30 he oweth me. Wife Susanna & friends Samuel Tompson & Joseph Penniman executors swore to the will 21 July 1682; Witnesses: Stephen Payne, Christopher Webb.

On 3 October 1684 Susanna the widow, executor, was dead, and letters of administration were granted to sons John and Jonathan. Inventory of remaining estate left by the widow 4 April 1695 appraised the real estate at £95, and shows a list of debts for sickness & funeral of the deceased and one of his sons, and the widow Susanna £20.

His wid. Susannah (that was liv. 1695 [sic, actually d. bef. Oct 1684 which is what necessitated administrator de bonis non mentioned in next line]), was extrix. and childr. of Samuel in right of their f. dec. are provided for, and John and Jonathan had admin. de bon. non, after her d.; and give s. were name. as liv. with d. Hannah. [Who but Savage would risk the readers' misunderstanding by abbreviating "who" with "wh." to save some fractional millimeters of space?]
