    "John2 Emerson (Michael1), born at Haverhill March 18, 1661-2; settled at Newbury; … He is called in Newbury records 'Lieutenant Emerson.' His father gave him a tract of land at Haverhill July 11, 1712, and he purchased other tracts there and in Newbury. He and Hannah, his wife, sold land to his brother Jonathan February 15, 1714-5. John Emerson, of Newbury, Joseph Emerson and Nathan Simons, [Nathan Symons bought that share of Robert Emerson's land of Mary, daughter of Thomas, Robert's son, in 1714.] of Haverhill, divided certain Haverhill lands September 23, 1717. A portion of his lands he sold to his son Samuel in 1731, and still another portion he gave to his son John in 1738. He died at Newbury March 6,1745; said in town records to have been 88 years old, in church records 'aged 85 years.'
