Notes

From the information gathered on this family, the evidence points to 2 John Eakin...uncle and nephew.

John Eakin the Elder was married to Elizabeth Paxton, whom he was separated from for a number of years. She returned to her father Thomas Paxton's household in 1758 until the elder James Eakin died in 1765. The couple appear to have reconciled. All the citations on this relationship can be found on John Eakin, the elder, son of James Eakin the original settler in Borden Tract.

John Eakin, the nephew, was the son of James Jr and Isabella Moore and is the right age to have married Elizabeth Lockridge.

    1. John Eakin died on, or prior to, 02 Jan 1813 (Shelby County Will Book, vol 3, p. 134). I'm going to call him "dead-John", which you'll understand by #6

The infant heirs of John Eakin, with guardian George Gill (infant means they were not yet 21): A Document of 1816 says there are 5 heirs, so all births after 1795, but another of that year does not name James and William, implying that the boys had reached majority, age 21. A document of 1826 says basically that Gill has paid James, William, Abigail, and Elizabeth their proportionate parts of their money, and he is still handling Polly's portion to Alexander.

    James---
Abigail---still under guardianship of Gill in 1816, to her birth after 1795
    William--
Elizabeth--still under guardianship of Gill in 1816, to her birth after 1795
Polly-----still under guardianship of Gill in 1826, so her birth between 1805-1813.

    2. From the beginning, Gill made arrangements with Alexander Eakin: The heirs' land was rented annually to Alexander Eakin for $60, and Alexander Eakin received payment of $60 "for their Boarding Clothing & Schooling".
