- ↑ The birth date 24 Jun 1656 apparently comes from Source:Draper, Thomas Waln-Morgan. Drapers in America : Being a History and Genealogy of Those of That Name and Connection, p. 18, which says John b. Dedham "24th day of 4th month, 1656". Unfortunately, Source:Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States. Early Records of the Town of Dedham, Massachusetts has no such birth. The closest, p. 7, is "John, the Son of James & Merjarie Dray, was borne 24: 4 mo., 1659". Now, p. ii-iii does say of the surname Dray, "the last letter may be intended as a contraction of 'per' instead of a 'y'" which would make Dray be Draper, but Merjarie is not quite the Miriam claimed by the Draper genealogy, and there is the other problem that on p. 129: "John Dray, deceased 30: 9 mo [1659]". Taken at face value, this suggests a John was born in 1659 and died five months later.
On p. 15 of the Draper genealogy is quoted a deposition of John Draper, "aged eighty-two years or thereabouts" on 25 Apr 1742, suggesting a birth about 1660. It is uncertain if this is the John Draper born in 1659, and the death record is an error, or if all the records are correct, and a second John Draper was born, unrecorded, presumably about a year after the first one died, but before Moses in 1663, since he seems to be the second son.
