    John (Davis), perh. succ. his father as Ensign -- 'Ensign Davis' juryman 1683. … He lost a w., Mary, d. 12 Jan. 1684, and m. Elizabeth Burnham. Himself and all his fam., except two ds. taken captive, were k. by Ind. 18 July 1694. One dau. remained with the French, the other, Sarah, ± 15 in 1716, mar. Peter Mason.

    John (Davis), b. 22 Aug. 1651; m. (1). abt. 1672, Mary _____. who d. 12 Jan. 1684; m. (2), Elizabeth, dau. of Robert Burnham. He was also called Ensign. With wife and several children, he was killed in the massacre of 1694. Two daus., were carried captive to Canada; one, Mary-Ann. became a sister of St. Benedict in the Ursuline Convent, the other. Sarah, returned and m. Peter Mason. Rev. John Pike in his journal says:—"July 18. (1694) The Indians fell suddenly & unexpectedly upon Oyster-River about break of day. Took 3 Garrisons (Being deserted or not defended) killed & Carried away 94 persons & burnt 13 houses—this was the fr act of hostility Committed by ym after ye peace Concluded at Pemmaqd."
