    Pioneer of Maxwell for Forty-Six years
    John Darling came to Maxwell Township and Took Homestead in the yr 1876.
    Funeral Held last Friday
    He and His wife suffered many privations here on the Prairie in Early Days.
    After a long illness, John R Darling, a pioneer settler of Maxwell Township, passed away December 24 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O W Baxter in Maxwell. Funeral services were held on Friday, Rev Nath Franklin officiating. Interment was made in the Dawson Cemetery.

    John R. Darling was born in New York State in 1845. He moved with his parents to Wisconsin in 1856. Here he grew to manhood. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Betsy G Griffith who died April 17, 1885. To this union were born four children, three of who survive him; Mrs. O W Baxter, Archie and Geo Darling, all of this place.

    Mr. Darling came to Maxwell township in 1873 and took a homestead. After the death of his wife he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Sophia Baxter for a number of years. For the past twenty-four years he as lived with his daughter, Mrs. O W Baxter. AT the time of his death Mr. Darling was 73 years 11 months and 28 days of age.

    Mr. Darling was one of the pioneer settlers of this county. He knew from experience what the hardships and privations of a pioneer life were. He was highly respected and loved by all who knew him.

    About fifteen years ago, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, whom he continued to love and serve up to the time of his death.
