In Andersonville. Ga., Sept. 9, 1864, Dea. John M. Crandall, son of A. B. and Fanny Crandall, aged 29 years and nearly 2 months. Bro. Crandall had been for quite a number of years, a faithful member of the 3d Seventh-day Baptist Church of Genesee, N. Y., and was beloved by all who knew him. When called by his brethren to the office of deacon, he meekly performed his duty, and was ever found at his post.
In one of those times when our Government greatly needed men, he volunteered into its service, simply from a sense of duty, and at the capture of Plymouth, N. C., he was taken prisoner and carried to Andersonville, where with thousands of others of our "brave defenders," he suffered much from want of food and proper treatment.
He leaves a wife, one child, and a large circle of friends, to mourn his loss. Thank God, his trials are over, and, we trust, he now awaits, with the many other martyrs, the vengeance of his Father upon his enemies. G. J. C.
