Note:
Legend indicates that Campbells descended from Milesius, King of Spain thru 8th son Heremon who became King of Ireland in 2934 BC. Recorded history begins about 379 AD. The Scotch side descended from Faha Canan of line of Lugadth, Uncle of Milesius who selltled in what is now Scotland. Sir Gillespic or Archibald Cambel of the House of Argyll, lived in Ardchonnel Castle and died in 1280.
John was the fourth son of Peter and Catherine Campbell, and born on the home farm at Caledonia. In 1835 John purchased and went to live on the "Sand Hill"farm, about 2 1/2 miles south of Caledonia. In 1858 he moved from Sand Hill farm to Fowlerville, NY where he remained until the fall of 1889 when he moved with his daughter Kate & husband Donald Malloch to Nelson, Nebraska.

Newspaper obituary for John J. Campbell. Note: Part of the obituary is missing at the top.
"...deceased had been confined to his room for a short time but very few were aware of his real condition. Death was the result of a combination of diseases. Mr. Campbell was born in Caledonia 54 years ago and has always resided here and in Mumford. For some years he was associated with Mr. Alex. F. McPherson in the mercantile business at the latter place, but a few years ago bought Mr. McPherson out and has since that time conducted the business alone. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of this village and was highly respected as a citizen and business man. His sudden death is a severe blow to his brothers and sisters and the community in general. He was a prominent republican politician of the town of Wheatland and held the office of town clerk for a number of years. The funeral will take place at the U.P. church, Mumford, Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock.
