Major John Bolling (January 27, 1676April 20, 1729) was a colonist, farmer and politician in the Virginia Colony. He was the great-grandchild of Pocahontas and her husband, John Rolfe.

    Will of John Bolling of Bristol Parish; Henrico County . Dated, 29 April 1727 . Probated 4 Augt. 1729 . Witnesses: William Happer , Thomas White , Joseph Wilkinson
    Just debts & funeral expences to be paid. Wife Mary Bolling , Land & plantation I now live on, called Cobbs together with the slaves belonging to the said plantation (11 in number) wth. sd. plantation & land being abt. 400 a. together wth. abt. 200 a. I lately purchased of Wm. Baught . To my sd. wife during her natural life. Also to my sd. wife all my household stuff in general on sd. plantation, wrought plate only excepted & that I give for her use during her natural life & then to go wth the land & slaves; Also to her all the stock of Horses & cattle, sheep & hogs belonging to the sd. plantation, wth all carts wheals harness, Sains, Boats Smiths Tools & all other belonging to the same wth, what New Iron Steel Coal old Iron that shall be on the premises at my death. Said wife to be supplyed from my plantation or otherwise yearly and every year 'till my last daughter is married wth. 60 barrels of Indian corn 60 bu. of good clean wheat 2000 wt. of good Neat Beef 3000 wt. of good Merchantable Drest pork, & that the same may be delivered her at Cobbs every year betw. 1 of 8 br. & last of January if she desires it within that time.

    To Mr. John Fleming who intermarried lately with my daughter Mary 1207 a. of land over against Licking hole plantation being part of a patent for 2407 a. granted to me; he is to have the lower part to begin at the upper end of the cleared ground over against Oglesbys thence a straight Course to the mouth of ye bottom next that cleared ground then up that bottom & upon the head of same a course or line at right angles to the back line of the forst survey of 800 a. & from that line such a course to the back line of the second survey as will give the quantity of 1207 a.: also to him 2 negro men & 2 negro women that belongs to & now lives on sd. land & slaves to sd. Fleming in fee for ever: also to him my negro girl Fillis in fee & œ115 sterlg. & œ10 currt. to buy his wife a horse if I do not buy her one before my death. & what I have above & before given & bequeathed the sd. Fleming is the marriage portion I promised him wth my daughter & for performance of which he has under my hand in the penalty of œ860 sterlg.

    Daughter Elizabeth Bolling , the remaining part of the tract of land above mentioned to Mr. Fleming & contains 1200 a. also 125 a. of land joining the upper end thereof wch. I lately purchd. of John Stephens to her and her heirs forever; also to her œ200 sterlg. & œ10 currt. or a horse of œ10 value; wch. sterlg. money is to be paid to her or her heirs within six months after marriage or her arriving to the age of 21 years, wch. shall first happen.

    My land at Flat Creek together with the slaves which shall happen to be thereon at the time of my death together with my right to ye slaves that are my Mother Bolling 's dower to be equally divided in Quantity and quality between my two daughters Martha and Ann Bolling to be held by them in fee forever. The division of the land and negroes to be made on the marriage of the first of my said daughters or coming to 21 years of age wch. shall first happen. Also to each of them œ100 sterlg. to be pd. each of them in the same manner as the sterlg. money given my daughter Elizabeth .

    And in the meantime my will is that œ15 sterlg. pr. annum be paid to my wife for cloathes for my daughter Martha till she be married or of age & the same for my daughter Anne , & that the same be pd. out of the profits of my Flatt Creek Land & plantacons.

    Grandson Richd. Randolph , œ100 currt. to be pd. to his father, mother or next friend for his use when he shall arrive at the age of Seven years.

    All the rest of my estate as New Goods, Debts, Land, Slaves and stock I give to my son John Bolling & his Heirs forever: but my gift to my son by this last bequest is on this condition that he prove this will in court within six months after my death & then enter into bond with good security in the sum of œ5000 currt. for performance of the foregoing part of this will, which if he fails to do then my will is and I hereby Impower my Executors to sell & dispose of all my estate above proposed to be given to my son & my Debts and legacys being first pd. the remainder to be divided between my wife & all my children only 400 pounds to each must be deducted out of my daughters Randolph & Fleming 's parts for money &c. already advanced for them.
