I am a descendant of Philip Ballard and Nancy Johnson of old Orange County, VA. The counties split and they ended up living in what became Culpeper County, then Madison and eventually moved to what was later Orange County, VA. Their daughter Mary Ballard married John Bolling in Culpeper County, VA on Aug. 22, 1773. They had four sons William, Benjamin, John Jr. and Joel. Joel Bolling married Anne Gaines in Culpeper County in 1792. They are my direct line.
I have been trying to connect John Bolling back to one of the main Bolling lines for a while now. The name Benjamin and Joel appears later in the White Bolling line (Col. Robert Bolling and Anne Stith) in Virginia and North Carolina. My Bolling line moved from Culpeper County, VA to Madison County, KY in 1796. From various deeds I have also gleaned that there may be a connection to Thornberry Bolling who fought in the Revolutionary War.
