From Colonial Families of Anne Arundel County, Maryland In Nov 1761, John Barnes, of Adam, was appointed overseer at Upton, and the, on 27 July 1765, Adam Barnes deeded to son his John 126 3/4 acres, part of Invasion, and 46 acres, part of Conclusion. His grandfather, John Dorsey, of Col. Edward, in his will proved 13 Nov 1764, left John Barnes, of Adam, a negro boy. On 5 March 1795, John Barnes sold his Anne Arundel Co. land, consisting of 126 3/4 acres The Invasion, 46 acres Conclusion and 94 acres What Is Left, to Edward Dorsey, of Caleb. His wife Hammutal did not sign a deed relinquishing her right of dower until 2 March 1797. On the same day he sold his land in Anne Arundel Co., John Barnes purchased land in Baltimore (now Carroll) County, 195 1/2 acres from David McMechen, known as Stevenson's Deer Park, Trouting Streams, and Robert's Lot. On his death this property was divided among his children: John Barnes, Jr., Dorsey Barnes and Rachel Petticoat. From Genealogical Gleanings in England 1784.
