Mary Barker's Notes:

Joined at Cartersville, GA. Fought in Battle of Chickmauga, Battle of Nashville. Captured in Battle of Franklin and taken to Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL. After war was over walked all the way back to Georgia.

"The Barkers were married after the Civil War and settled in the Kincaid Valley a few years after, Grandpa came from around Rome, Ga. and Grandma from Sulphur Springs, Ala. Grandma was an aristocrat but Grandpa, just a poor, hardworking fellow but he was a schoolteacher, Sunday school superintendent, Justice of the Peace, preacher. Mary Barker's Notes:

"Bought 200 acres of land at the foot of Kincaid Mountain and built a house there. Five slaves who had been owned by grandmother's (Linnie Blake) family asked to stay with them after the Civil War as they had no place to go and helped them to scrape up the land with limbs to plant wheat."

Father's name unknown. Mother's last name was Middleton. His father helped his Uncle Middleton run plantation in Vicksburg during Civil War. Uncle had 1000 slaves and fed a whole battalion during Battle of Vicksburg.

“Linnie Blake was engaged to a Mr. Gray who died in the Civil War. John Thomas Barker brought her the news.”

“JT and Linnie bought land and built home approx. 2 miles south of Holland, GA on Old Summerville - Rome Rd. near Kincaid Mountain.”
