(From S1): Born Dec. 2, 1642, was a son of the first settler James Bailey and his wife Lydia (Emery) Bailey. He married Mary Mighill June 16, 1668. She was a daughter of Deacon Thomas Mighill, one of the leading citizens of Rowley. They lived in Rowley and had nine children, the last one born after his father's death. John Bailey served as a soldier under General Phipps in the expedition against Canada in 1690 and perished coming from Canada, Nov. 19, 1690. His wife was appointed administratix of his estate, as appears by the records of the Probate Court of Salem, Massachusetts. She died about 1693.
