From: The Spoor Family in America-"Johannis Spoor settled in Coxackie at an early date. The oldest original documents pertaining to the family that we have seen are an obligation and reciept for its payment dated 1732, May 15 and 1733, May 15, respectively. They are in the possession of Mr. James H. Lampman, of Coxackie, who has kindly loaned them for reproduction...They are translated as follows: 1732 May 15 I the undersigned Albert Van Loon acknowledge to have sold to Johannis Spoor junior the one half of a piece of land situated on the south side of Hans Haalenbeck's parcel of land which was bought by Albert Van Loon in company with his brother and of which Johannis Spoor junior must have the legal one half and for which Albert Van Loon has recieved 40 pounds 20 shillings in pelts at the last accounting leaving 20 pounds [to be paid] I am to furnish a correct transfer [deed or abstract] in May 1733. Albert Van Loon. Witness Jan Van Schaack W His X Mark Lomenes" "1733 May 15. Have I Albert Van Loon recieved from Johannis Spoor junior the remainder of 20 pound for the land bought from me now paid in full. Now I will be obliged to give him a correct transfer {deed or release] whenever he so demands. Albert Van Loon"

"On 30 December 1741, he purchased of the Van Loons fortyfive acres of woodland in Coxackie where he built the house which is still standing...To this neighborhood the name Spoorenberg or Spoor's Hill was given. We quote from the history of Greene County regarding this locality: 'On the Spoorenberg road from Coxackie to Athens and on the north side of Murderers Creek and within sight of the West Shore R.R. is an old stone house that has long been a landmark. This is the Old Spoor Place and the dwelling place of the family from the earliest times. Johannis Spoor left this property to his son. It descended to his son John D. Spoor who died a comparatively young man. At his death the place descended to his son Derrick who was the last of the family to inhabit the old homestead. It passed into the hands of strangers; but with a respect for the memory of his ancestors, which few of the descendants of the Dutch settlers seem to possess, he, although comparatively poor, had their graves enclosed with a substantial fence and procured monuments to mark their graves. A respect for the sentiments so creditable to the man prompt us to lend our aid to perpetuate their memories and his own by putting the inscriptions in a form more durable than marble.'
