OBITUARY: GUTTENBERG PRESS, Guttenberg, Iowa, August 28, 1908. DEATHS OF PAST WEEK. GRIM REAPER LAYS CLAIM TWO AGED PERSONS. JOHN MINGER AMONG NUMBER. PASSES AWAY AT HIS HOME IN MILLVILLE TOWNSHIP TUESDAY EVENING AFTER SHORT ILLNESS. At his home a short distance east of Millville John Minger, Sr., passed away at 10:30 Tuesday evening after an illness of three days at the advanced age of 80 years, 11 months and 19 days. The immediate cause of his demise was stomach trouble, from which he had suffered several years. He had been confined to his bed but three days previous to his death. Mr. Minger was among the early settlers in this part of the county, coming here over fifty years ago and at that time located on the old Minger homestead in this township where he resided with his family until about twenty-five years ago when he removed to the farm in Millville township where he spent the remainder of his life. Deceased was a native of Switzerland. He came to America when a young man and settled in Ohio where he was later married. Surviving him are his widow and eleven children, six sons and five daughters, who are John, George, Henry, Frank, Charles, Albert, Mrs. Lizzie Brown, Mrs. Sarah Smith, Mrs. Ella White, Mrs. Susan Kenyon, all residents of Millville township, and Mrs. Emma Kappen of Canton, S. Dak., and one brother, Ben Minger a resident of Guttenberg. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Saturday) with services at the late residence. Interment will be made in Dittmer cemetery southwest of Guttenberg. |
