Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 3, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :

  • Lowther, Joel, entered service 1778 in Culpeper County, Virginia; entered service 1780 in Harrison County, Virginia; Pensioned age 62 Athens County, Ohio 1818; resided there in 1820, occupation blacksmith when had wife age 33 & children: Deidamia age 13, Elias age 7, Mary age 5 & Jackson age 2; died 11/12/1853 age 98 near Rutland, Ohio; married (2) Fall 1812, Nancy Douglas at home of her father in Lee Township, Athens County, Ohio & they had 3 children: widow pensioned age 66 in that County in 1853; granted Bounty Land Warrant 26844 age 67., Putnam County, Missouri, 1855; William Smith affidavit 1853 at age 57 Athens County, Ohio, he married daughter of soldier by 1st wife; widow's brother David affidavit 1854 there age 51; soldier's widow died 5/16/1871, FW4269, R1596.

    Joel Lowther, a son of Robert and Aquilla (Reese) Lowther, was born was born August 4, 1756 in Loudon County VA and died in 1853 in OH. He married Elizabeth West before 1786. Elizabeth, a daughter of Edmund and Eleanor West, was born about 1770 in Harrison County VA and died before 1812 in OH.

    Joel married Nancy Douglas about 1812. She was born about 1795.
