Information on Joel Cowan

From "Tennessee Cousins: A History of Tennessee People", by Worth S. Ray, pg. 109:

The Cowan Family of Dandridge and Jefferson County

Joel W. Cowan, of Jefferson County was son-in-law of Abednego Inman, the old revolutionary soldier, who is buried at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church. His wife was Annis Inman. They were the parents of F.B. Cowan, who was born in Jefferson County, April 2, 1835 and also the grandparents of Dr. Cowan, of Dandridge, who was still living not long since.

Joel W. Cowan died in 1850, when his son F.B. Cowan was about 15 years of age. These Cowans were relatives of Andrew and Samuel Cowan of early Tennessee days.

age = 54, implying he was born about 1796, but he was likely born earlier, as he appears to have been the oldest of the children from his father's last marriage
