Joanna Grubb was baptised on 4th July 1740 at St Ive in east Cornwall, daughter of Richard Grubb and his wife Sarah Crew. She was the second of the couple's four children. In 1749, when Joanna was nearly nine years old, her father Richard died.

Joanna had a daughter, Sarah, who was baptised at St Ive on 1st January 1756, when Joanna was fifteen years old. Four years later Joanna married a James Collins at the neighbouring parish of South Hill. They had a daughter baptised at South Hill in 1762, then moved to the nearby town of Callington. At Callington they had a son, James, in 1764, but he appears to have died as a baby. They then had a daughter, Grace, in 1766.

Joanna has yet to be traced after the baptism of Grace in 1766.

Needs to be confirmed at Cornwall Record Office. This baptism has been linked to the Joanna who married James Collins in 1760 on the basis of that 1760 marriage record which says "with consent of mother Joanna Grubb". This baptism can also be linked to the Joanna who had a daughter Sarah in 1756 on the basis that when Sarah married in 1777 one of the witnesses was Joanna Grubb, who was presumably Sarah's grandmother, Joanna's mother.
