João Paulo da Silva was born on 3 May 1894 in Camacha, Porto Santo, Funchal, Maderia, Portugal.[1] He was christened on 20 May 1894 in the Freguesia Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Porto Santo, Funchal, Maderia, Portugal.[1][2] He departed from Funchal, Madeira, Portugal on 1 May 1907 on the S.S. Kumeric.[3][4][5][6][7]
Hawaii Era (1907 - 1918)
He arrived in Honolulu, Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, United States on 27 June 1907.[5][6] He appeared in the census on 26 April 1910 in Ewa, Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, United States.[8] He was a plantation laborer and lived above main government road with his parents.[8] He registered for the World War I draft on 31 July 1917 in Honolulu, Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, United States.[9] At that time he lived in Aiea, Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, United States, and worked for the Honolulu Plantation Company as an electrician's helper.[9] He was also married (presumably to his first wife).[9] He departed from Honolulu, Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, United States on 12 January 1918 on the S.S. Governor, where he was described as a laborer.[10]
California Era (1918 - 1974)
He arrived in San Francisco, San Francisco, California, United States on 18 January 1918.[10] He married Rosa Soares around 1920.[11] He appeared in the census on 16 April 1930 in Oakland, Alameda, California, United States.[11] He died on 24 July 1974 in San Leandro, Alameda, California, United States.[12][13][14] He was buried on 29 July 1974 in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, Alameda, California, United States.[12] His Social Security Number is 552-05-9919.[12][13]
