Facts and Events
When Leroy became "missing", my Aunt Carol knew that he would not just disappear, and not be in touch with her. My cousin Mike, his brother, was in Cleveland, Ohio at the time. He was working with our Uncles. My Aunt asked Mike to immediately go to CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina, to look for his brother. Mike did go and talked with many people. The Marines were no help. They insisted that he was AWOL. Mike then called Aunt Carol and told her something wasn't right. She followed him to the area. After some harrowing situations and interviews, they finally got someone to talk. They took the information to the authorities, and the individuals were arrested. They were later tried and convicted of his murder. My Aunt Carol and cousin Mike are heroes in my eyes. Their family bond was so great. They made sure that Leroy did not die with his name tarnished and that his assailants were brought to justice. The story was run in Wheeling, West Virginia in "The Intelligencer" the local newspaper. (Vol. CXXXlX No. 28). FUNERAL CARD: In Memory of PVT.
