Jesse is identified immediately after Isabella, wife of David Edmiston, in 1740 naturalization records in Orange County.
- July 24-25, 1740. David Edmiston came into court and made oath that he imported himself, Isabella, Jesse, John, William, Rachell, David, and Moses Edmiston, and also Jesse Gelesby, and James Daley of Ireland to Philadelphia and from thence into this colony at his own charge and that this is the first time of proving his and their rights [in order to obtain land, which is ordered to be certified]
No further records for Jesse are noted in Source:Chalkley's Chronicles. However, in David's probate record, a James Edmondson is identified as administrator, along with Isabella. Since a "James Edmondson" is no listed in the naturalization records of David, it seems likely that he is the same person as "Jesse". The naturalization records have been independently transcribed in at least two places: Source:Morton, 1920, and in a volume of the Edmondson Family Association Journal. Both give the first name after Isabella as "Jesse". Nonetheless there are differences in other places in the transcriptions, suggesting that the script of the original may have been difficult to read. It would be useful to examine the original records to see if its possible that "Jesse" is actually a corruption of "James".
